Ichthus Consulting, Inc. (ICON), located in Montgomery, Alabama, provides practice management and consulting services to anesthesia and pain practices primarily in the southeastern United States. Devoted exclusively to anesthesia and pain practices, ICON works predominantly with anesthesiologists and certified registered nurse anesthetists (CRNAs) practicing in Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina and Tennessee. ICON currently represents over 300 anesthesia providers, processing over 250,000 claims per year representing over $240 million in anesthesia services with all coding done by Certified Professional Coders (CPC-American Academy of Professional Coders). Group sizes range from one to 38 anesthesiologists with most medically directing CRNAs. Among the groups, several operate freestanding pain centers or clinics with the majority of the others involved in some level of pain management services.

Icon’s staff consists of three principals and over fifty employees.

Larry J. Hughes, MPA, CPC, ACS-AN has a B.S. Degree in Accounting and a Masters Degree in Public Administration with a certified concentration in Healthcare Administration. He has over 34 years of experience in healthcare financial management and administration with the last 22 years totally dedicated to anesthesia billing and practice management. From 1972 through 1983 he served in various positions of increasing responsibility in hospital finance and administration at various institutions. In 1984, Larry was a co-founder of Medical Management, Inc., a physician practice management company that was sold to a national company in 1995. For the next three years he served as a national consultant to anesthesia practices with concentration on practices in the southeastern United States. At the request of several former clients, Larry returned to billing and practice management by creating ICON in early 1998. Larry is a member of the Healthcare Financial Management Association, Medical Group Management Association, American College of Medical Practice Executives, a Certified Professional Coder (CPC) and is also board certified as an Advanced Coding Specialist in Anesthesia (ACS-AN) by the Board of Advanced Medical Coding.

G. Bruce Weathers also has over 30 years of experience in healthcare financial management. He began his career in healthcare in 1972 serving as the Manager of Patient Accounts at Sylacauga Hospital. In 1976, Bruce joined Baptist Medical Center in Montgomery, Alabama, as its Director of Business Services. In 1980, he left Baptist Medical Center to work in the same capacity at St. Margaret's Hospital. With 12 years of hospital experience, Bruce and Larry Hughes co-founded Medical Management, Inc. in 1984. Since that time, Bruce has worked exclusively in anesthesia. Bruce is unsurpassed in his knowledge of the unique problems encountered and relationships between hospitals, insurance carriers, managed care companies and other physician specialties.

Cody P. Jones, CPA, MBA, ChFC began his career in anesthesia practice management by joining Medical Management, Inc. in 1994. Previously, he spent three years as a tax specialist with the public accounting firm of Deloitte and Touche. From April 1997- September 2000, Cody served as the practice administrator for Medical Anesthesia Group, P.A. (MAG) in Memphis, Tennessee. In September 2000, he joined Millennium Medical Management, Inc., a national anesthesia-consulting firm located in Atlanta. Cody joined ICON in May 2001. Since that time, he has earned the Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC) designation. He is a member of the Healthcare Financial Management Association, Medical Group Management Association, American College of Medical Practice Executives, Society of Financial Service Professionals, American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and the Alabama Society of Certified Public Accountants. Cody maintains an active Alabama and Georgia CPA license.
